Bali Electricity to Go Sky High

Indonesia to Build World's Tallest Electrical Pylons to Bring Power from Java to Bali.

Bali News: Bali Electricity to Go Sky High
(9/27/2010) The Indonesian State Electricity Board (PLN) have confirmed that the world's tallest electrical pylons to support high-voltage transmission lines connecting Bali with Java.

The pylons, each measuring 376-meters high and standing opposite each other on the two sides of the Bali Straits, will be constructed at a cost of US$33 million.

The plan has received the recommendation of the Bali provincial House of Representatives (DPR-Bali), paving the way for the bidding process to be held in October 2010.

According to The Jakarta Post, the highest electrical pylons are found at Jianggyin in China (346 meters), Orinocco in Venezuela (240 meters) and at a new project being constructed in Zhejiang in China (370 meters).

The project, expected to be completed by 2015, will carry wires sending 1,800 megawatts from Java to Bali. Interim phases in the construction project will already be sending supplemental quantities of power as early as 2012.

A current submarine cable under the straits carries between 160 to 200 megawatts of power.
