Bali News: Garuda Japan Flights Not Disrupted by Earthquake
(3/12/2011) Garuda Indonesia flights to Tokyo's Narita International Airport continue without interruption following a temporary closure of the Japanese airport during the cataclysmic earthquake that struck northern Japan on Friday, March 11, 2011.
Garuda flights from Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali) to Tokyo departed on Friday night, March 11, 2011. Flights to Osaka and Nagoya also continued to operate according to schedule.
Quoted in Bisnis.com, the vice-president of corporate communications for Garuda, Pujobroto, said, "Garuda flights to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya depart from Jakarta and Denpasar in the middle of the night and arrive in Japan at 9:00 am the following morning Japan time."
Garuda operates one daily flight each between Jakarta and Denpasar to Tokyo. In addition, Garuda has flight numbers operating to Nagoya four times each week and Osaka five times per week.
According to Pujobroto, if Narita were closed, Garuda's flights would be diverted to Osaka.
