(5/31/2008) As reported on balidiscovery.com, the people of Bali will go to the polls to elect a new Governor on July 9, 2008. [See: Bali Votes for it Governor on July 9, 2008]
The three parties vying for the executive office in Bali will only be allowed to begin formal campaigning on June 22, 2008, with all campaigning coming to a complete halt on July 6th, starting a 3 day "cooling off" period prior to election day.
In order to promote public order, a strict order of campaigning is in place regulating special areas and specific campaigning days for each set of candidates.
The Campaign Schedule
June 22, 2008
• All three parties to deliver the vision and mission at Bali's Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD)
• Joint peace declaration by all parties at Bali's Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD) at 15:00 hours.
June 23, 2008
• Party #1 comprised of Winasa and Alit Putra representing a coalition of various parties to campaign in Jembrana, Tabanan and Buleleng regencies.
• Party #2 comprised of Cok Budhi Suryawan and Suweta representing the Golkar Party to campaign Denpasar city, and the regencies of Badung and Gianyar.
• Party #3 comprised of Made Mangku Pastika and Cok Puspayoga representing the People Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) to campaign in Bangli, Klungkung and Karangasem regencies.

Unlike past years, the elections rules have a long list of "do's" and "don'ts" which must be observed by all political parties. Included in the list is a strict prohibition on parades and marches in support of any candidate or party.
