Bali News: Picking Up the Gas Bill for Bali
(7/10/2010) Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Muhammad Hatta Radjasa, has voiced his support for Bali's campaign to create a clean and green island.
Quoted by the national news agency Antara, Bali's governor Made Mangku Pastika said the Minister's pledge was made during meetings with the Minister regarding the establishment of a seaport for the delivery of liquefied gas to Bali. Pastika said Minister Radjasa's offer is a very positive step within the context of Bali's desire to be both green and clean.
"The problem," according to the governor, " is where we will build the port. Remember that the people of Balinese will begin to voice objections at the very mention of a plan."
During the Bali meeting attended by local legislators and the General Manager of the PLN in Bali, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy told those in attendance, "Bali should go ahead and build the gas port, we will provide the funds."
Applauding the promise, Pastika told the press that as long as power generating stations in Bali are compelled to use diesel fuels it will be impossible to create a green and clean province.
