Sharp

Gaya Art Space holds an exhibition by Made Wianta. Sharp objects are both life and death. Without a sickle, scythe and arrow we wouldn't have eaten. Even forks and chopsticks.

Our mind, sharper than any tooth or claw. From the first snip of the umbilical cord and our daily lives - axes, saws, hooks, drills, razors to cut the little hairs. Needles to patch clothes, to take medicine. We are hungry. Made Wianta won't feed us. But he'll show us how to eat and fill the body. First you take something sharp. The exhibition runs through January 20.

Not to be Trashed...

A Solo Exhibition by Wayan Suja, given the somewhat peculiar name PLUSH-TICK; Celebrating and Troubling over Change, is held at the Komaneka Fine Art Gallery through January 22. Plush-tick (pun of 'plastic') is a wrapper that we carry around, a sign of an affordable luxury. The impact of this thing is actually very complex: litter, pollution and a lifestyle of disorder. The Gallery is open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

My Son & I

An exhibition of paintings and hand-painted ceramics by Sasya Tranggono and her son Nicolas Hilman is being held at the Jenggala Gallery through March 7. Sasya Tranggono is an eminent name in Indonesia's watercolor art community. Many describe her art as "feminine" because of the soft colors, flowers, and themes as well as titles. Her son, Nicholas Hilman, started to paint at two and a half years of age and learned his early painting lessons from his mother.

Go Blue too

The second 'Go Blue' underwater photography exhibition takes place in a bid to show the public the beauty of coral reef ecosystems and to raise awareness about the importance of coral reef conservation in Indonesia.

The event is hosted by Yayasan Reef Check Indonesia and internationally renowned marine photographer Adam Powell in collaboration with Harris Resort Kuta. The event runs through January 15.

The opening night saw a fundraising event for Yayasan Reef Check Indonesia and their operation of educating children in reef awareness. Adam Powell, as with his first photo exhibition, donated 10% of his sales to their program.
